I am now 34 years old on this Friday 13th. Life begins at 40, so I've only got to wait six more years!
So where did I get this "Life begins at 40" crap? Read more....
Life Begins at 40: Well, it's a lesser-known byword, but here is my logic. Early last century, the age of 30 was considered middle age, as human life expectancy was less than 60. Now, the life expectancy of US citizens rings in at nearly 80. So statistically, you haven't really hit middle age until you near 40. And this shouldn't surprise us. Actually, nothing should surprise us.
We humans of the digital age are nearly as fit, healthy, and youthful when in our 40s as the thirty-something crowd from yesteryear, mostly due to advances in the fields of biotech, medicine, and even cosmetics. Add to this the fact that further advances in these and other fields will allow us to truly enjoy being over 40 with less fear of senility, frailty, etc.
I bumped into a guy named Gez (www.jucify.com) who offered a slightly different approach. He says that 40 is when you wake up, realize what you've done (or failed to do), then rewind your life back to your early teens so that you can do it all over again, the way you always wanted to. I don't debate his perspective at all!
Also, if my memory serves me justly, I remember a movie with the same title, "Life Begins at 40."

When the first crop of 80 somethings arrived, they thought they'd hit middle age at 30. If they were capable, I bet they would have been doing cartwheels when they hit 80 with no obvious sign of the end being nigh. I have absolute proof (but it's top secret, so I'm unable to disclose details), that the current crop of 30-40 year olds will live until they're 603, with no signs of degradation until they're 602 and 9 months old.
You still have the same brain, logic, and reasoning throughout the various ages you reach. Unless you're incredibly conformist, how can age affect you? If you allow yourself to be categorised, you allow yourself to be judged on issues that really aren't that important in the scheme of things. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy; if you believe you're old, people will treat you as if you're old. Conversely, the indignance and transparency of those that pretend they're younger than their years, fools no one. Even with a lifespan of 603 years, life's short; enjoy it. 40 sucks? Most ages will if you ask nicely.
PS. Belated birthday greetings for your 34th, Daniel.

40 sucks! The only good thing is that you learn more about geriatrics.
